Frankie Montecalvo, 20 years old, started his professional racing career in Oct. 2008. Although Montecalvo is the “new kid” on the racing circuit, he has been enjoying extreme sports from a very early age. From dirt bikes to bulldozers and other heavy construction equipment, Montecalvo can operate them all with the finesse of a seasoned veteran.

With no prior karting or racing experience, Montecalvo entered various club and historic racing events. Astonishingly, Montecalvo drove a race car before a shifter kart! Montecalvo’s passion and commitment to racing was demonstrated when he chose to race at Watkins Glen instead of attending his high school graduation. His entire class was behind his decision giving Montecalvo the added confidence in his choice to forego a college education and focus on becoming a professional race car driver.

Montecalvo competed in the 2009 Grand-Am Koni Challenge, partnered with pro-driver Gunnar Jeannette. Together, the duo snagged two top-10 finishes. This included their best finish of seventh place at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Montecalvo himself was able to place top ten in several races his first year, as well as several victories in historic races. With two 3rd Place finishes in 2009 Rolex Endurance Series (Daytona & Sebring), Montecalvo shows amazing promise and potential. Montecalvo is ready to show the racing world what he’s made of.

In 2010, Montecalvo seized the opportunity to drive for Multimatic Motorsports. Montecalvo was fortunate to join the development team for the Boss 302R Mustang with champion professional teammates; Gunnar Jeanette, Scott Maxwell and Joe Foster. Throughout the season, the team struggled with mechanical issues; but by the last race, all of the technical problems with the engine were perfected. This was a great learning experience for Montecalvo who not only rose to the challenge presented but surpassed all expectations.

In addition to racing for Multimatic, Montecalvo was able to explore a few other sports car racing opportunities. In Dec. 2009, Montecalvo tested in an IMSA Lites Car for Green Earth Team Gunnar (GETG). In 2010, after only 20 minutes in a prototype, Montecalvo became a participant in the Cooper Tire Prototype Lites Series. After three races, he impressed his team with consistent but conservative finishes. By the 4th race, Montecalvo took first place at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah. Soon after, Montecalvo was placed in an LMPC challenge car in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS). Montecalvo qualified 2nd behind Louis Diaz by .05 seconds. After 2 ALMS races with Genoa Racing, Montecalvo had a 3rd place podium finish at the Grand Prix of Mosport in Ontario, Canada. His minimal track time experience only proves his success is due to his remarkable natural talent.

In his first full American Le Mans Series Series season in 2011, Montecalvo finished second in the driver standings and has collected four podium finishes as teammate to Jon Bennett – finishing second in the 12 Hours of Sebring, part of CORE autosport’s first 1-2 finish at Mosport in Canada, at Road America and Baltimore.

Hailing from the beautiful New Jersey shore, Montecalvo takes full advantage of the waterfront life. When not racing or preparing for races, he enjoys jet skiing, boating, wakeboarding, snowboarding, restoring and working on cars.
