Jon Bennett is a race car driver. Jon Bennett is a businessman. His story is neither commonplace nor is it unique. However, it is exemplary of what an individual with a vision, determination and commitment can ac complish.
Bennett had a boyhood dream to become a race car driver. Early on, he realized that his path would not take him through karting, racing schools, junior formulae and onto the big leagues. No, his best chance was through building a business that would afford him the opportunity to go racing.
Bennett earned a degree in engineering then set his sights on learning the machinations of the business world.
Fifteen years later, his company, Composite Resources, has grown into leading-edge manufacturing facility that services a variety of Fortune 500 companies and government agencies.
Bennett’s efforts to build his business have been tireless, but not without reward. Aspiration became reality in 1992 when he secured his first road racing license. A few years on, he was being regularly invited to partici pate in the SCCA National Championship Run-Offs, consistently showing well. By 2003 he was setting track records and winning multiple national amateur championships.
With his business continuing its ascendance in 2008, he was ready to commit fully to attaining his childhood ambition. Moving to the semi-professional IMSA Prototype Lites Series, Bennett honed his talent to emerge as the highest ranked rookie for the 2010 season on the strength of two pole positions; two podiums and sixth place finish overall.
For the 2010 season life came full circle. Bennett was not only a successful businessman; not only a promis ing race car driver, but now also a combination of both worlds as a team owner. CORE autosport came into being, completing the transition from aspirant to full-fledged member of the motor racing community.
In this next phase of life, Bennett is bringing the same vision, determination and commitment to motor sports that began the journey two decades ago, with a viable run for the LMPC team championship and multiple podium visits with young co-driver Frankie Montecalvo.
